Two Pre-Conference Workshops at PBMI's National Conference

Highlights

We are looking forward to seeing our members at our 25th Annual National Conference! In addition to a fantastic lineup of speakers, we have two pre-conference workshops to help add value to your conference experience. Workshops are a little longer than the program sessions (90-minutes) allowing presenters more time to delve into their topics. The workshops also provide another opportunity for you to network with peers and others sharing similar interests in the topic. Both sessions will be held on Monday, March 2 at 10:30 am, lunch will be served.  You must be registered for the conference to attend. Check out the topics:

Understanding the Impact of Pricing Practices for Your (Pharmacy) Benefit

Quantifying the impact of pharmacy pricing practices is critical to decision making by pharmacy stakeholders. This presentation will focus on cost impacts such as the tradeoff between rebates / discounts, value-based design, and accumulator programs. We will share our experiences from working with PBMs, pharmacies, and plan sponsors to provide numerical examples with clear explanations.  Participants should walk away with a basic understanding of how these practices impact pricing and why they are used or proposed.

Sponsored by Milliman, Inc.

The Roles of PBMs and Plan Sponsors in Addressing the Opioid Crisis

The opioid crisis affects all of us: white collar employees, blue collar employees…everyone. While all of those in the continuum of care are responsible for finding ways to address the crisis – payers, PBMs and plan sponsors play a particularly important role in combatting the crisis within their memberships. This workshop will provide real-time data on the opioid crisis, review the progress that has been made in the fight and discuss the hard work that remains. Attendees will leave with an understanding of the key strategies they can consider in doing their part, as well as knowledge about best practices to implement those strategies within their own organizations.

Sponsored by Emergent Bio Solutions

If you have already registered, but did not select a workshop and you would like to sign up, contact Linda DeChant at ldechant@pbmi.com and she’ll get you signed up. If you haven't registered for the conference, register today!

What's Happening in the
Coming Weeks at PBMI?

Highlights

With only a few weeks left in the year, we still have a few important dates you need to mark on your calendar.

December 4 – Webinar: Optimizing Protection of Your Healthcare Data
If you haven’t signed up yet, we still have spots available. Our expert panel from EnvisionRx will share information on using an integrated approach to safeguarding healthcare data. Data breaches are on the rise, leading to an array of new privacy and cybersecurity laws worldwide. Healthcare companies must secure data while meeting compliance demands and prepare for the worst-case scenario. Join us as the panel discusses privacy, security, regulatory compliance, and vendor oversight within complex healthcare organizations. Register today!

December 10 – NEW Webinar: Improving Total Cost of Care for Patients with Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease
We’ve added another webinar to our December calendar. Diabetes impacts about 1 in 10 Americans, 90 to 95% of whom have type 2 diabetes. Among adults with type 2 diabetes, 1 in 5 also has cardiovascular disease. Diabetes and cardiovascular disease independently account for significant clinical and financial costs, but taken together, the costs multiply. In fact, according to the National Diabetes Association, 52% of U.S. healthcare spend in 2012 was attributed to complications of diabetes due to cardiovascular disease. Employers bear a significant portion of these costs. The direct cost of type 2 diabetes with at least one diabetes-related complication was $38,849 per patient per year in 2012. These costs continue to rise. Can medication choices reduce overall costs? PBMI’s Dr. Sharon Frazee will take a deep dive into costs associated with diabetes and new PBMI analysis showing the impact of one class of medications on improving total cost of care. Register today!

December 13 – Deadline for 2020 PBMI Excellence Award Submissions
The Excellence Award program recognizes organizations for their contributions in promoting innovative and best-in-class strategies that address the challenges of drug cost management, quality improvement, and care management strategies.  We’re looking for organizations that have demonstrated excellence in the following categories below:

  • Cost Containment
